據報導，台灣總統馬英九於2011年2月1日為1997年空軍士兵江國慶遭無辜處決一事正式道歉。

針對這則報導，國際特赦組織亞太區副主任貝凱玲（Catherine Baber）回應指出：「又一位無辜者遭到處決的事實，再次證明死刑的虛妄。再多的道歉和賠償也無法挽回江國慶的生命。

「要徹底避免無辜者枉死的風險，唯一方法就是把死刑從六法全書中完全廢除。所以，當務之急是向死刑道別，而不是為它道歉。」

台灣國防部也已在昨天承認辦案疏失，向江國慶家屬致歉。

Wrongful execution in Taiwan

On 1 February 2011 the President of Taiwan, Ma Ying-jeou was reported to have formally apologized for the execution of an innocent man in 1997, former air force private Chiang Kuo-ching.

In reaction to these reports, Catherine Baber, Asia Pacific Deputy Director at Amnesty International, said:

"This admission that an innocent man was executed yet again highlights the futility of capital punishment. Apologies and offers of compensation unfortunately will not bring Chiang Kuo-ching back to life.

"The only thing that will eradicate the risk of executing innocent people once and for all is removing the death penalty from the law books. The time for abolition, rather than apology, is now."

The Ministry of National Defence also apologized yesterday to Chiang Kuo-ching's family for their mishandling of the case.
