1. Amnesty International is a global movement of millions of supporters, members and activists in more than 150 countries and territories who campaign to end grave abuses of human rights. Our vision is for every person to enjoy all the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights standards. We are independent of any government, political ideology, economic interest or religion and are funded mainly by our membership and public donations.

2. We note recent press articles alleging a link between Amnesty International Taiwan and Yu Shen Chemical Co, a company alleged to be involved in food contamination. We regret this connection and the misleading information within those articles, and would like to confirm the following:

- Mr. C.J. Loa, the owner of Yu Shen Chemical Co is not a member of Amnesty International

- Amnesty International Taiwan's board member, Mr. Ioksin Loa, Mr C.J.Loa's son, has no professional involvement in or position with Yu Shen Chemical Co.

- Mr Ioksin Loa has not been detained or charged by the authorities in relation to the food contamination issue
